After Sonny Wharton hammered down the roof of Po Na Na last week we return once again for a great big slice of electronic underground house music at Po Na Na. This week its the return of long term OD resident DaySleepers, followed by some great up and coming fresh talent from the local scene.

Sunday 2nd May (BANK HOLIDAY ALL NIGHTER) Overdose Presents MYNC (Cr2 Records)

Overdose is taking over Ponana for another massive Bank Holiday Sunday all nighter, and this time we’re lucky enough to have the mighty MYNC gracing the decks.

After an 18 month break MYNC has returned with a bigger sound then ever. The act’s front man, CR2 head honcho Mark Brown thought it time to bring back the brand, known for championing new sounds combined with mesmerizing technical wizardry, to the forefront of the dance scene and enlisting some of the CR2 family along the way.

Having mixed the hugely successful Space Ibiza annual this summer, MYNC will be releasing their brand new mix album for Cr2s ‘Live And Direct’ series at the end of January 2010. Productions are also on a roll with three MYNC tracks making it onto the ‘Ministry Of Sound Annual 2010′ plus a wealth of new remixes for the likes of Faithless, Calvin Harris and Chuckie, and a month long Australia tour over Christmas. It’s self evident MYNC ARE BACK!

As well as the 4 deck 2 mixer combo traditionally used in MYNC’s trademark sets, the House music collective have incorporated an extra dimension to their performances utilizing 2 laptops and 2 Traktor Audio 8 boxes creating a live element to their shows, twisting pre recorded sounds, samples and acapellas, into the mix. So its no surprise these cutting edge skills have led to a renewed endorsement deal with number one DJ Kit manufacturer Pioneer.

Such a strong, highly skilled and passionate group of artists joining forces means only one thing, there is absolutely no doubt that MYNC’s reformation will be something of a landmark in the dance world. Whether you’re familiar with MYNC, or a newly appointed fan, you will know that they are just as at home playing in intimate underground clubs as they are performing to the clubbing elite on Ibiza’s legendary Space Terrace – and what remains true to this day is that they stand for what they believe in: good, quality house music………………..and you can take that to the bank.

Saturday 27th February 2010 | Overdose 3rd Birthday

Overdose will be 3 years old in February and we’d like to thank everyone for their continued support. As from next month we’ll be hosting Overdose one Saturday a month at our original home, Ponana – Norwich!

As it’s our birthday, and our first event back at Po’s we thought we’d pull out all the stops and book another world class DJ and house music pioneer, Rocky from X-Press 2 & Problem Kids!! Supporting Rocky we’ve got Overdose ressies, SpinMonkeys, Kid Lopez and DaySleepers playing the usual mix of underground tech and tribal house. The club will be fully decked out for the occasion with extra lighting and décor.

Rocky Biog:

Rocky started DJing in the mid 80s playing hip-hop, jazz, soul and funk at a local youth club and various birthdays, weddings etc. He got his first proper gig at one of Simon Dunmore’s parties in West London. He hooked up with Diesel in 87, when they did the first Rocky and Diesel gig at a night called Trance (!) in Barbarellas, Greenford on the 12th June 1988. They were playing when the whole acid house thing blew up and got carried along with the wave. He landed a residency at London’s Yellow Book in 89 and also became friends with the Boys Own crew, making regular appearances at their events. He started doing the odd remix around 1990 for the Farm and a few other bands that were around at the time. Then he hooked up with Ashley Beedle in 92 and made the first X-Press 2 record, Muzik Express. A string of club hits followed also started Ballistic Brothers along with Beedle, Dave Hill and Uschi Classen. X-Press 2 landed a DJ residency at Cream for 6 months around 95.

He wound up X-Press2 and Ballistics in around 96, When he then started working with Mark Wilkinson, producing as Problem Kids. He wrote 2 albums and several singles for Paper Recordings and Junior Boys Own. He continued to work with Mark until around 99 when he decided to give X-Press 2 another go. Together with X-Press 2, he wrote the album Muzikizum that included Lazy with David Byrne that reached number2 in the UK pop charts. He has been working on X-Press 2 stuff constantly since then. Together they wrote a second album, Makeshift Feelgood and released a best of album, Raise Your Hands in 2008. Now he hosts a weekly show on Kiss London that started in October 2008 with XP2, every Sunday night / Monday morning 1-3am. www.totalkiss.com/xpress2. He has always done solo gigs alongside the XP2 work and is a regular face around East London as well as playing worldwide. He is currently in the studio writing lots of new XP2 tracks, and collaborating with some amazing singers/writers for future releases, as well as making underground house tracks with close friend Terry Farley.
